“ The Garden State offers incredible food from every region of the world, and it has a large Asian population spread across the state (but more clustered in North Jersey). Although sushi and ramen have made a name for themselves worldwide, there’s so much more to try in Japanese cuisine. Located on the lower level by Neiman Marcus at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, I attended the Elite event—Bites and Sweets at Tojo’s Kitchen—thanks to Sara and the Yelp team. Upon entering this spacious, clean, and modern interior, we were warmly welcomed by the staff and sat at a table with our fellow participants, enjoying live music with Pete. We enjoyed samplings of small savory bites such as Onigiri おにきり (Japanese rice balls made of steamed rice that one compresses into a triangle), Asian Tacos, and Karaage (Fried Chicken). For desserts, there were Kakigori (Japanese Shaved Icea) and Japanese Crepes. To wash them down, there were Sample Drinks Mango Cloud, Matcha Lemonade, and Oreo Milk, ending with the owner’s own sake brand. Thank you, Olive. The meal was both authentic, traditional dishes that one would consume in a Japanese household and restaurants in Japan, which were tastefully delicious. Amongst the reviews, it seems that the Kaarage stood out the best, being moist and flavorful. One of the highlights was finally meeting up with new fellow Yelpers and putting a face with others. Tojo’s Kitchen continues to attract food lovers eager to explore the rich tapestry of Japanese flavors, which I can recommend. ”

The food was absolutely wonderful—I ordered ramen along with a few appetizers, and everything was flavorful and satisfying. The atmosphere was inviting, and I had a great time with friends. “ Tojo’s Kitchen in Garden State Plaza NJ is a hidden gem! I had an amazing meal here — the pork tonkotsu ramen was rich, flavorful, and filled with tender pork and perfectly cooked noodles. The edamame was fresh and lightly salted, a great way to start. The Thai iced tea was smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. I finished with the blueberry taiyaki, which was crispy on the outside and warm and fruity inside — the perfect treat. Everything was delicious, and I’ll definitely be coming back! ”
“ Tojo is definitely a hidden gem in Westfield. If you’re in the area and don’t want Americanized Japanese food, this is the place for you. Overall, everything is great. My only complaint is that my curry udon was a bit salty, but I tend to prefer lighter flavors, so that might not be an issue for everyone. The bento is definitely a great value choice—it will fill you up if you’re hungry! ”

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive, friendly, and thoughtful. The food was excellent, with the main offerings centered around ramen dishes and donburi (rice bowls). Most menu items ranged from 14–17, while some of the top grade specials—like their A5 Wagyu shoyu ramen—were priced between 28–45. There was a good selection of appetizers and a few dessert options as well. The restaurant had an open, spacious feel, and the background music added a nice touch to the cozy ambiance. Overall, a hidden gem in the mall—I’m definitely looking forward to coming back. ”
